Undertow is a German metal band from Heidenheim, founded in 1993 .
history
Undertow were founded in 1993 out of the desire to actively make music themselves and not just follow the scene passively. Originally there was a second guitarist in the band, but he left the band before the first appearance. The straight songs, which for the most part manage without guitar solos, are often melancholic, mostly melodic and catchy-groovy have always been characteristic.
A year after the band was founded, the first live performances and a first demo band followed. The band's first album was released in 1997 under the title Slope . The record label Sub Zero Records then became aware of the band and together they released Harm on E two years later . Shortly after the recording, the band separated from drummer Christoph Eberhard and replaced him with Oliver Rieger.
After switching to Silverdust Records, the album Unit E was released in 2002 and 34CE (Threeforce) a year later .
In December 2003 Oliver Rieger announced his departure from the band for mid-2004 for family reasons.
After a total of more than 250 live performances and several Germany / European tours (with Crowbar , Pist.On , End of Green , Pro-Pain, among others ) Undertow released their album Milgram in 2006 with the new drummer Rainer Pflanz .
After the tour to the Don't Pray to the Ashes album, Rainer Pflanz left the band and was replaced by the returning Oliver Rieger. Since the end of 2012 the band has been working with a second guitarist.
In 2013, the album In Deepest Silence was released via Supreme Chaos Records. In the following years numerous concerts and festival appearances were completed, including a Germany tour with End Of Green and several concerts on the Harmful Farewell Tour.
In autumn 2016, the album Reap The Storm was recorded in Studio 141 in Schwäbisch Hall under the production management of Roger Grüninger . Meanwhile, bassist Thomas Jentsch announced his departure, which led to the recording being interrupted for several months. Andreas Hund became the new bass player. The album was released in 2018
