University of West Alabama

The University of West Alabama (also called UWA ) is a state university in Livingston in the US state of Alabama . There are currently 2,300 students enrolled here.

history

The University of North Alabama was founded in 1835 as the Livingston Female Academy and State Normal College , a Church-owned college for women. From 1907 men were also admitted. After several name changes, the university was given its current name in 1995.

Of the 2,300 students in the 2006 fall semester, 55% were women and 45% men.

Sports

The University of West Alabama sports teams are the Tigers . The college is a member of the Gulf South Conference (Eastern Division) .
