Alabama State University
The Alabama State University is a state, originally African-American University in Montgomery in the US state of Alabama . There are 5600 students enrolled. It belongs to the group of the Historic African American Colleges and Universities .
history
Alabama State University was founded in 1867 as the Lincoln Normal School by nine former slaves. After several name changes, it was given its current name in 1969. The university radio station WVAS-FM has been broadcasting since 1984.

Alabama State University's sports teams are the Hornets . The college is a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference .
