The University of Alabama in Huntsville (including UAH called) is a state university in Huntsville in the US state of Alabama . It was founded in 1950 and is part of the University of Alabama system . There are currently 7,600 students enrolled here. The university is particularly known for its research and teaching in the fields of astrophysics and atmosphere . The UAH is a so-called Space Grant University . Robert A. Altenkirch has been the President of the UAH since October 2011.

Sports

The UAH sports teams are the Chargers . The college is a member of the Gulf South Conference (East Division) . The hockey team plays in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association .

Rampage in February 2010

On February 12, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. CST , lecturer Dr. Amy Bishop allegedly set fire to her colleagues during a meeting of the biology department at the Shelby Center for Science and Technology. Faculty members Gopi K. Podila , Maria Ragland Davis and Adriel Johnson were killed and three others injured.
