The University of Limpopo (English University of Limpopo , UL for short ) is a university in the Limpopo Province in South Africa . It was created in 2005 by merging the University of the North, founded in 1959, and the Medical University of Southern Africa (Medunsa), founded in 1976 . Until 2014 , the UL had two campus areas , the Medunsa Campus , the former location of the Medical University of Southern Africa , and the now only Turfloop Campus . The campus is located east of Polokwane in Mankweng , postal in Sovangu.

The UL is headed by the Vice Chancellor, the Executive Management also includes two Deputy Vice Chancellors, managing deans , a dean of studies , an examination officer as well as a CFO and a CHRO . The Chancellor is the university's highest representative . The management is responsible to the university council .
The university is divided into four faculties :
- Faculty of Health Sciences on the Turfloop Campus
- Faculty of Humanities
- Faculty of Science and Agriculture
- Faculty of Law and Economics
The faculties are divided into schools .
In 2014, the Medunsa campus on the territory of the Gauteng province was spun off from the university and has since been home to the new Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University .
