Unterammergau churches, chapels and wayside shrines
In the Upper Bavarian municipality of Unterammergau there are not only the main church of St. Nikolaus in the Unterammergau district, the Heilig Blut pilgrimage church ( Kappelkirche ) in the Kappel district and the Franz Xaver Chapel in the Scherenau district, but also smaller chapels, wayside crosses and wayside shrines. They are considered land monuments in Unterammergau , some of them are also registered as architectural monuments in the Bavarian list of monuments.
Chapel and Marterl ways
In order to bring these land monuments closer to the public, the community of Unterammergau has designated two chapel and martial paths, one to the left of the Ammer and one to the right of the Ammer, which lead past the more centrally located land monuments. The project was funded by the EU initiative INTERREG III B "Alpine Space". Further land monuments are scattered over the entire municipality of Unterammergau, there are around 80 in total.
