The village of Unterbach in the canton of Bern belongs to the municipality of Meiringen in Switzerland and is therefore also known as Unterbach near Meiringen .
geography
Like Balm , Unterbach is located on the alluvial land between the Aare Gorge and Lake Brienz . It is located on the southern side of the Aare , west of the main settlement of Meiringen.
As one of the few districts of Meiringen, Unterbach does not have its own coat of arms , but has its own zip code : CH-3857. It consists of two parts. The village center, which extends south of the airfield command, is actually referred to as the Unterbach village. The much smaller part east of the airfield command is declared as Unterheid despite its affiliation to Unterbach .
Origin of name
The name Unterbach was derived from the earlier location "under the brook" . The meant brook is the Oltschibach.
The Oltschibach is an outflow of the Oltschisees, northeast of the Faulhorn . It forms the 140 meter high Oltschibachfall .
The name Unterheid was also derived from an earlier place name, namely "Unter der Heide" . The heather in question is the "Heidli", which stretches north of Balmstrasse shortly after Balm and at the same time forms the beginning of the village.
Airfield Command (military airfield)
Since December 1, 1941, Unterbach has been the location of the Meiringen military airfield , one of the four remaining military airfields in Switzerland. The operation of the airfield has both positive and negative effects for the region and the municipality of Meiringen: The noise and odor emissions from the military jets are a major burden for the population affected as well as for tourism companies. However, with around 200 jobs and 25 training positions, the airfield is an important economic factor for the region. For this reason, the municipality of Meiringen is involved in a mediating role between noise critics and those responsible for flight operations. Representatives of the municipal council take part in the talks between the people of Unterbach and the airfield command. In addition, the municipality of Meiringen takes on a leading role in the negotiations with the DDPS .
On the other hand, the military airfield also attracts guests to the tourist region. The annual Axalp aviator demonstration in autumn on the Axalp is well known . Around 10,000 guests visit this event over two days. In addition, those interested can watch the take-offs and landings of the jets in the immediate vicinity or get to know the military jet airfield on regular visiting days.
In 2006, the military airfields were renamed Airfield Commandos.
education
The municipality of Meiringen has three primary schools. The Pfrundmatte schoolhouse in the center of the village (170 children), the Hausen schoolhouse (50 children) in an outlying area, and the Unterbach schoolhouse (30 children) in Unterbach. All classes are taught in multi-year classes.
As a sports facility, the Unterbach school building has a gym and a sports field. A large sports field is also part of the offer.
Due to some debates , the Brünigen all-day school was moved to Unterbach for the 2011/12 school year.
