The Unterberg is a 1,187  m high, wooded mountain cone above the Pillerseetal, near St. Ulrich am Pillersee or St. Jakob in Haus , Kitzbühel district , Austria .

With its regular shape, it stands out from the neighboring, somewhat higher peaks ( Tannkogel ( 1289  m ), Weißleiten ( 1400  m ), Grieslegg ( 1348  m )) and stands exactly at the transition from the gentle Kitzbühel Alps to the rugged Loferer Steinberge . The former consist of crystalline slate and therefore have rounded shapes, while the limestone “stone mountains” to the east rise steeply. As a result, the form and color contrast between the Unterberg and its surroundings - z. B. to neighboring Grieslegg - all the more eye-catching.
