Unterdorf (Schwarzach)
Coordinates: 47 ° 27 ' N , 9 ° 45' E The Unterdorf is a district of the community of Schwarzach ( 419 m above sea level ) and lies below the Lindau – Bludenz railway line . There is no Oberdorf as a counterpart. The larger part of Schwarzach above the railway line is simply referred to as the village .
history
The lower village consists of two sub-areas with different settlement histories.
Western part
The western part is an older settlement area and was built in 1939 as a peripheral settlement. It was a construction project of single-family houses with significant personal contribution by the later residents in order to create inexpensive living space for the relatively poor strata of the population.
Such settlements, sometimes also referred to as workers 'settlements or contemporary as workers' colonies , were built in the 19th century and in the first half of the 20th century on the initiative of non-profit organizations or by entrepreneurs in the entire German-speaking area to provide inexpensive and healthy living space for those who were still living at the time To create largely unpaid strata of the population and to eliminate the housing shortage that prevailed after the war. Architects and construction technicians already began in the mid-19th century, deal with the investment of such settlements to even the simple man durability and safety, functional layout, consideration of light, air and vegetation, but also the leisure and sports facilities, as a basis for healthy living.
The western part of the Unterdorf settlement is therefore to be seen as part of the settler movement in the German-speaking area (see also: Settler Movement Vienna ). In Austria, the settler movement was taken over by the Federal Minister for Social Administration, Josef Resch . In the process, inexpensive loans were granted to make the project easier to implement. A similar settlement as in Unterdorf had already been realized in Schwarzach, the Ausserdorf an der Minderach . In the neighboring municipality of Dornbirn 1934-1935 with 23 units in Dornbirn in the Birkenwiese (see settlement Birkenwiese ) and previously, even smaller, the settlement Unterer Porst and 1937/1938 the settlement Im Forach (26 units).
To implement such projects, the non-profit settlement cooperative Dornbirn (rGmbH) was founded for the Birkenwiese settlement in Dornbirn at the beginning of August 1934, which was then also responsible for the Im Forach settlement in Dornbirn and the Unterdorf settlement in Schwarzach.
In contrast to the previously established settlements described above, the Unterdorf settlement did not have self-management areas.
Eastern part
In 1916, the Maggi company acquired a plot of land over 15,000 m² in Schwarzach, directly adjacent to the Lindau – Bludenz railway line. A warehouse was built for raw products for the production of the Maggi soup seasoning . A planned company building and cold store with its own siding was not realized.
In 1979, the then mayor of Schwarzach, Helmut Leite , learned that the Nestlé company wanted to sell this 15,119 m² property with warehouse (the Maggistadl ) in Schwarzach ( Maggi-Wiese ). At the meeting on December 31, 1979, the municipal council decided to purchase this property and use the warehouse for the municipality's building yard. In 1981 the Unterdorf residential model was designed and the community made land available to interested parties on the Maggi meadow at low cost . This provision of inexpensive building sites was intended to counteract the emigration of young families from Schwarzach. The eastern, smaller part of the lower village was created after 1980 by parceling the Maggiwies (parcel Maggiwies ) and building homes (also known as the Nussfeld project).
In addition to the first settlement in the lower village, environmental protection and a compact construction method were also taken into account. The development of the individual plots was given by the municipality in a non-binding guideline. The provision of inexpensive land to private potential buyers by a municipality and thus active intervention in the land market was still unusual and courageous in Vorarlberg at that time . The price per square meter at that time was 700.00 schillings (EUR 50.87).
In 1987 the house was officially consecrated. At that time, 17 of the 20 available plots were built on.
Topography, geography, location and traffic
The Unterdorf lies in the Ried and is bounded north by Mittelriedgraben (Riedstrasse), east by the Lindau – Bludenz railway line, and south by Kuhfangengraben. To the west it opens up to the reed ( state green zone ) without any topographical delimitation .
Geographically, the lower village has a maximum width of about 175 m and is about the same length and lies entirely in the municipality of Schwarzach. It covers an area of around 3 hectares .
The Unterdorf is easily accessible from Schwarzach with normal motor vehicles .
Craft, trade
The part of Schwarzach known today as Unterdorf was an agricultural area for centuries and no significant commercial infrastructure has developed here. Even today, agriculture still dominates around the lower village. At the southern end of the lower village is now the building yard of the community in the former hall (Maggihalle).
