Unterreitnau is located in a rural area in the northwest of the city of Lindau and forms the northernmost of the ten districts of Lindau. The area of ​​the former municipality is 620.17 hectares . According to the census of May 25, 1987, the population was estimated at 454 people.

The district includes the villages of Bechtersweiler, Rengersweiler, Eggatsweiler, Hörbolz, Dürren, Rickatshofen and the hamlets of Hörbolzmühle, Wiesfleck and Unterwaltersberg.

Neighboring communities

Unterreitnau borders in the south on the communities Bodolz and Wasserburg , in the west and north on the communities Kressbronn and Tettnang of the Baden-Württemberg Lake Constance district .

The Lindau districts of Oberreitnau and Schönau connect to the east and south-east .

history

The first settlements of the Alemanni in this area can be traced back to the 8th century, the first documentary mention of Unterreitnau goes back to the year 805.
On July 1, 1971, Unterreitnau was merged with the neighboring municipality of Oberreitnau to form the municipality of Reitnau , which was incorporated into Lindau on January 1, 1976 as part of the municipal reform.

Plague cemetery

Parish and pilgrimage church of St. Urban and St. Sylvester

The tower substructure of this Catholic parish church probably dates from the 14th / 15th centuries. Century. The choir and the west wall of the nave were built towards the end of the 15th century. In 1690 there was an extension and the addition of the Josef chapel.

Plague cemetery

North of Rickartshofen is a former plague cemetery of the city of Lindau. The 350 square meter “Totenacker” with a small open chapel was donated by Johann Philipp von Schindelin (1606–1681) and in 1635 served as the final resting place for numerous plague victims .
