Upper Beeding is a village ( Village ) and a municipality ( Civil Parish ) in Horsham District in West Sussex , England . It is located near the River Adur in the north of the South Downs . Upper Beeding works closely with the neighboring municipalities of Bramber and Steyning .

history

Upper Beeding's history goes back to Anglo-Saxon times. At that time, the neighboring communities of Beeding and Sele merged to form the community of Beeding . For most of its history, what is now known as Upper Beeding was simply called Beeding . In the 13th century, however, monks founded a small mission in St. Leonhard's Forrest, about 15 kilometers away , which became known as Lower Beeding . Presumably to distinguish the two places, Beeding was given the prefix Upper . The exact date of this name change is unknown. What is certain, however, is that the parish, which was probably the trigger, did not take part in the name change and is still known as the Church of Beeding . Numerous residents still refuse to change the name and keep the traditional name.

Infrastructure

Upper Beeding is located in South Downs National Park and has connections to the South Downs Way and Monarch's Way cycle paths . The entire area is popular with cyclists, hikers and horse riders. The small town itself offers individual refreshment stops.
