Uredo atropodis-distantis is a stand fungal art from the order of the rust fungi (Pucciniales). The fungus is an endoparasite of the common salt plume ( Puccinellia distans , Syn. Atropis distans ). Symptoms of the infestation by the species are rust spots and pustules on the leaf surfaces of the host plants. She is endemic to Italy . Since only its secondary crop shape is knownso far, it is classified in the genus Uredo .

features

Macroscopic features

Uredo atropodis-distantis can only be recognized with the naked eye by means of the spore beds protruding on the surface of the host. They grow in nests that appear as yellowish to brown spots and pustules on the leaf surfaces.

Microscopic features

The mycelium of Uredo atropodis-distantis grows as with all Uredo TYPES intercellular and forms Saugfäden that grow into the storage tissue of the host. The spermogonia and aecia of the species are not known. The uredia of the fungus growing on both sides of the host leaves are golden yellow and have paraphyses . Their orange uredospores are on average 20.5–24.7 × 20.5 µm in size, mostly approximately spherical to ellipsoidal and smooth. The parts of the species are unknown.

distribution

The known distribution area of Uredo atropodis-distantis only includes South Tyrol near Brixen .

ecology

The host plant of Uredo atropodis-distantis is common salt plumes . The fungus feeds on the nutrients present in the storage tissue of the plants, its spore beds later break through the leaf surface and release spores. The species goes through a presumably macrocyclical development cycle with Spermogonia, Aecien, Uredien and Telien. Due to the lack of aecia and spermogonia, it is not possible to determine whether it changes host . However, a Puccinia species with aecia on the buttercup family is suspected .
