Urenui is a village in the New Plymouth District of the Taranaki regionon the North Island of New Zealand .
geography
Urenui is located about 17 miles east of New Plymouth on the North Taranaki Bight coast . The village is divided into two parts by the Urenui River , one part that lies directly on the coast and the part that is separated from the coast by a small inlet. The New Zealand State Highway 3 runs directly through the village and connects it via Waitara, which is around 13 km to the west, with New Plymouth, which is further west .
About 3 km to the east is the Urenui Marae , the only remaining marae of the Iwi Ngāti Mutunga .

In the 2013 census, the town had 426 inhabitants, 0.7% less than in the 2006 census.
Education
The village has a primary school founded in 1876 for grades 1 to 6. In December 2016, the school had 52 students.
