Ursula Wieland (* around 1950 in Heidelberg ) is a German art scholar and painter . She specializes in portraiture and has painted numerous prominent people.

Life

Ursula Wieland was born into the family of a doctor. After finishing school, she studied pharmacy and languages on the advice of her father . Due to her early inclination to painting, she then went on to study art , at the same time she studied art history at the universities of Munich , Madrid and London . Her mentor, the portrait painter Graham Sutherland , helped Ursula Wieland's work achieve a breakthrough during her time in London . In addition to developing in the field of her own painting, she earned a doctorate . - Ursula Wieland lives in Berlin-Charlottenburg , partly also in Paris , is married and has three children.

Career

Her career as a painter began in Vienna in 1968 after she had made a drawing by the conductor Herbert von Karajan . She also met Leonard Bernstein there, where she initially only made one sketch of him, but he took great pleasure in it and immediately devoted the time to her for two more sketches. Even Jean Tinguely , next to where she was sitting on the plane, was a likeness with which he surprised his gallery owner George William Staempfli, who then in his York New Gallery Wieland exhibited first works. A short time later, exhibitions in Switzerland , Singapore and South Africa followed . In her portraiture she herself appreciates getting to know people of different backgrounds and the "spiritual and spiritual charisma" of the people. Her colorful pictures are more photo-realistic and Wieland does not embellish them . In addition, Wieland has been known for its airport pictures since the early 1980s . It depicts scenes at airports and in airplanes.
