Utrecht marathon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Utrecht Marathon (official name Jaarbeurs Utrecht Marathon after the main sponsor, the Utrecht Fair ) is a marathon in Utrecht . The program also includes a half marathon as well as a 10 and a 5 km run.

history

The first event took place as the Leidsche Rijn Marathon in 2000 on a point-to-point course between the Utrecht suburbs of Vleuten and De Meern . In 2001 the event was canceled due to a foot-and-mouth disease outbreak . In 2005 it was merged with the Utrecht Half Marathon, which was held in conjunction with a marathon from 1978 to 1998, and renamed the Fortis Marathon Utrecht . The race has had its current name since 2008.

route

The half marathon consists of a loop that runs from the exhibition center via Oudenrijn and De Meern to Vleuten and back. In the marathon, a turning point route is covered immediately after the start, which runs south of the city center past the canals and Sonnenborgh , and in Vleuten a lap around the Leidsche Rijn Park is completed. The 10 km run is identical to the second half of the marathon, the 5 km run consists of a lap around the exhibition center and an adjacent park.
