Uwe Abel (born August 12, 1966 ) is a former German soccer player. He played from 1985 to 1991 for FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football . Abel is a multiple junior and junior national player of the GDR.
Career
Uwe Abel began his career at BSG Motor Heiligenstadt . In 1979 he moved to the youth department of FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt , where he made it to the junior national team of the GDR . With her he played 13 international matches between 1984 and 1985, scoring one goal. In 1984 he made his debut in the GDR league . By 1991 he played 97 league games in which he scored eleven goals. From 1986 to 1987 he was a member of the GDR youth team , for which he completed nine international matches (one goal). In 1991, he and Erfurt qualified for the 2nd Bundesliga and the UEFA Cup . In the UEFA Cup, he was in all four games against FC Groningen and Ajax Amsterdam , in the 2nd Bundesliga, he played 23 games and scored two goals.
From 1995 to 1998 he played for the Bavarian regional division club SV Landau. In his last season with this club, he could hardly play due to a knee injury. From 1998 he coached SV Haidlfing . He later coached SV Landau. In the 2009/10 season Abel was Albert Krebs' assistant coach at the upper division club FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt II. For the 2010/11 season, the coaching team moved to the Thuringian regional class FC Wartburgstadt Eisenach .
