Uwe Lorenz (born July 19, 1955 in Halle / Saale ) was a soccer player for Hallescher FC Chemie in the GDR Oberliga , the highest East German soccer league.

Athletic career

Lorenz began his football career at the age of ten at SG Dynamo Halle-Süd. In 1971 he moved to the company sports association (BSG) Motor Ammendorf . From November 1974 to April 1976 he played during his army service at Lok / Vorwärts Halberstadt , initially in the second-rate GDR league , after relegation in 1975 in the district league . From May 1976 to December 1977 Lorenz was again active for Motor Ammendorf in the district league.

At the beginning of 1978, Lorenz was delegated to the top division club Hallescher FC Chemie (HFC) to focus on football in the region. Coach Peter Kohl put the 1.77 m tall Lorenz on the last day of the 1977/78 season for the first time in the league. In the game Chemie Böhlen - HFC (5: 3) he came on the field in the 53rd minute and scored his first league goal just four minutes later to make it 3-2. In the following seasons he did not succeed in conquering a regular place in the first team. Between 1978 and 1983 he was used in 81 league games, was also in the starting eleven 50 times, but only played in 33 games over the full game. It wasn't until the 1983/84 season that the knot tore, Lorenz played 25 league games, 22 of which over the full 90 minutes. He also scored the most league goals of his career with six goals.

Subsequently, the relegation of the HFC and a meniscus operation threw him back, he was only able to complete 21 of the 34 GDR league games. Meanwhile, the HFC was in a crisis, missed the rise in both 1985 and 1986.

In the third attempt, the HFC managed to return to the league as champions of the GDR league in 1987; Lorenz was involved in 33 of 34 league games this season. In his eighth league season 1987/88 he was still part of the player base with 22 point game appearances, but was now mainly used in the right midfield. In the following three seasons Lorenz only missed a single point game, but was now in the team as a full-back. In the last GDR top division season 1990/91, which, in addition to determining the last GDR soccer champion, also served to qualify for the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga, Lorenz reached fourth place with the HFC, which had meanwhile dropped the addition of "chemistry" and thus the right to participate in the 2nd Bundesliga . The now 36-year-old had played all 26 point games. With a total of 205 completed league appearances for the HFC, Lorenz is one of the club's record players. He was also successful in the league with 17 goals.

In the 1991/92 season, despite his advanced football age, he was still used in 31 of 32 second division games played as a defender in various positions. After HFC's relegation from the 2nd Bundesliga, Lorenz was still active for the club for two years, now in the Oberliga Nordost (middle season) . After the 1993/94 season he left the HFC and let his active career end with sub-class amateur teams in the Halle area (FSV 67 Halle, Wettiner SV).

Private

Since Lorenz crossed a sporting valley with the HFC in the mid-1980s and was personally unable to do so due to injury, he prepared for his professional future during this time. He completed his studies as a qualified teacher and from then on worked as a teacher for chemistry and mathematics at the children's and youth sports school in Halle. When the number of teachers at this facility was reduced for the 1992/93 school year, Lorenz was not taken on.

After retraining, he has been working in an architecture firm since the mid-1990s.
