Uwe Michael Lang

Uwe Michael Lang CO (born October 18, 1972 in Nuremberg ) is a Roman Catholic priest and belongs to the Congregation of the Oratory of St. Philipp Neri .

Life

Uwe Michael Lang studied theology and classical philology in Munich , Oxford and Vienna . In 1997 he converted to the Catholic Church . In 1999 he received his doctorate in Oxford and was accepted into the Congregation of the Oratory of St. Philip Neri in Vienna. Since 2002 he has been a member of the London Oratorio . In 2004 he was ordained a priest and worked in parish and school pastoral care until 2007.

From July 2007 to April 2008, Lang worked for the Pontifical Commission for the Church's Cultural Assets , then until June 2012 for the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Order of the Sacraments . In September 2008 he was called by Pope Benedict XVI. as Consultor of the Office for the Liturgical Celebrations of the Pope (until September 2013).

From 2007 to 2012 Lang was a lecturer and from 2008 to 2011 coordinator of the Master’s degree in Architecture, Sacred Art and Liturgy at the Università Europea di Roma / Ateneo Pontificio Regina Apostolorum . In the 2011/2012 academic year he taught the history of Christian worship and hagiography at the Pontificio Istituto di Archeologia Cristiana as professor incaricato .

Lang has been a member of the Comité Científico Internacional, Sección de Estudios Litúrgicos Medievales, Centro de Estudios Filosóficos Medievales, Universidad Nacional de Cuyo , Mendoza, Argentina, since April 2010 , and since December 2011 Magistral Chaplain of the Sovereign Order of Malta . From September 2012 to August 2018 he was a lecturer in theology (focus on church history and historical theology) at Heythrop College , University of London .

Lang has been editor of Antiphon: A Journal for Liturgical Renewal and Board Member of the Society for Catholic Liturgy since September. Since October 2012 he has been pastor of the Oratory Parish (Immaculate Heart of Mary) and is active in the hospital chaplaincy at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. He has been teaching at Allen Hall Seminary since September 2013 and is Associate Staff (Lecturer and Coursebook Writer) at Maryvale Institute, Birmingham.

Lang has been Vice Provost (Vicarius) of the London Oratorio since March 2015.

He mainly publishes on patrology and liturgical studies .
