Uwe Neuber (born October 27, 1955 ) is a former German soccer player. In the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football , he played for FC Carl Zeiss Jena in the 1970s . He was also a two-time young national player of the GDR.

Athletic career

In 1970 the 14-year-old Uwe Neuber was delegated by the company sports association BSG Wismut Gera to the football focus of the region, the FC Carl Zeiss Jena. Neuber played his first men's games in the 1974/75 season, initially with the second team of FC Carl Zeiss in the second-rate GDR league . Of the 22 point games, he played 18 encounters, in which he was mainly used in midfield. Towards the end of the season Neuber also came to his first three league appearances, where he was substituted on in the second half. For the season 1975/76 Neuber was intended for the league, but initially played the first ten point games again in the 2nd team. After he had completed a short stint as a substitute on the 11th league matchday again, he played all ten games from the 17th league matchday to the end of the season. In changing positions he was mainly called up as a midfielder. In the following three seasons Neuber finally belonged as a midfielder to the player base of the FCC's league team. In the total of 78 played point games, he was missing only 19 games.

In 1976 and 1977 Neuber played two international matches with the GDR youth national team . In the international game GDR - Czechoslovakia (1: 2) Neuber worked on November 16, 1976 in the first half as a central midfielder. On August 16, 1977 he was substituted in for the striker Rainer Jarohs in the U-23 match between Sweden and GDR (0: 4) in the second half . Neuber also made other international appearances for FC Carl Zeiss in European Cup matches. In the 1977/78 UEFA Cup , in which Jena reached the quarter-finals, he played five of the eight games, including both quarter-finals against French representatives SC Bastia . In the same competition in 1978/79 , FC Carl Zeiss was eliminated in the 2nd round. Neuber was called up once in each round against the Dutch Lierse SK and MSV Duisburg .

Local elections were held in the GDR on May 20, 1979 . Neuber, who was only a substitute player in the second half of the GDR Oberliga 1978/79, did not participate in the election. On the following day he was no longer in the FCC squad. In the preview of the 1979/80 Oberliga season, Neubers' departure from FC Carl Zeiss was noted and reference was made to the move to BSG Wismut Gera . In fact, Neuber had been banned for one year for "not taking part in the local elections and for non-socialist lifestyle" (see web link fcc-supporters.org below). Instead of playing in Gera, he was called up for military service in the National People's Army . There he was able to play football with the fourth-class army sports community Vorwärts Havelberg .

For the 1981/82 season Neuber finally appeared at the GDR division Wismut Gera. He was part of the team from the start and was almost always used in the central midfield 21 times in the 22 league games. The following two seasons did not go so well for Neuber. In 1982/83 and 1983/84 he was only used in 23 league games (+ 4 promotion games in 1983). Although named in the squad for 1984/85, he was not called up for the entire season in the league team. Neuber completed his most successful season in Gera in 1985/86. The GDR league had been reduced from five to two seasons, and 34 rounds each had to be played. Neuber played 33 league games and, as usual, scored five goals as a central midfielder, having scored only four goals in his previous time at BSG Wismut. Uwe Neuber played his last season in higher-class football as a 31-year-old in 1986/87, in which he was only used in six league games at the beginning. Then he had a record of 73 league games with two goals and 113 GDR league games with 12 goals. Neuber ended his active career with the 2nd team from Wismut Gera in the third-class district league .
