Uwe Santjer (born October 23, 1965 in Cuxhaven ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and curative educator . He was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament in the 17th and 18th electoral terms (since February 19, 2013).

Since November 1, 2019, he has succeeded Ulrich Getsch as Lord Mayor of the City of Cuxhaven. In the election on May 26, 2019, he was able to win an absolute majority with 51% in the first ballot against Harald Zahrte and Hans-Jürgen Wendt.

Life

Santjer is the son of a cutter fisherman and his wife. After completing his vocational training as an educator, he worked at the school for mentally handicapped children in Stade , later as an educator, deputy director and head of various day-care centers. While working, he completed a degree in curative education at the Evangelical University of Applied Sciences in Hanover . From 2003 until the state elections in 2013, he worked as a specialist advisor and managing director for day-care centers in Cuxhaven. The common upbringing of disabled and non-disabled children was one of his priorities. Santjer is the editor of various specialist articles and the specialist book Open Kindergarten specifically in its further development .

In 1982 Santjer joined the SPD. Since 2001 he has been a member of the Altenwalde local council and the council of the city of Cuxhaven. Santjer moved into the district council for the first time in the 2016 local elections.

In the state elections in Lower Saxony in 2013 , he won the direct mandate in the state electoral district of Cuxhaven (constituency 58). He became a member of the culture committee and the ports and shipping subcommittee of the state parliament.

In the state elections in Lower Saxony in 2017 , Uwe Santjer was able to directly win the newly tailored state electoral district of Cuxhaven, which also includes the municipality of Hadeln , with 48.2%. In the 18th electoral period he was elected deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. When he took over the office of Lord Mayor of the city of Cuxhaven, he resigned from his state parliament mandate. Petra Tiemann moved up for him .

As spokesman for ports and shipping for the SPD parliamentary group, Santjer was one of the initiators of the Cuxhaven appeal to expand offshore wind energy. As a spokesman for early childhood education, he has spoken out in favor of the introduction of the third specialist in the crèche and the exemption of fees for attending kindergarten from the age of three in Lower Saxony. He was also spokesman for churches, religious and ideological matters, and spokesman for petitions for his faction.

Santjer has been married since 1991 and has two daughters.
