Uwe Speidel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Uwe Speidel (born March 27, 1971 in Creglingen ) is a German football coach who worked as a fitness and assistant coach at various clubs and temporarily worked as head coach at MSV Duisburg in 2009. He is currently under contract as an assistant coach at VfL Wolfsburg .

Career

Speidel was 25 years old when he took over the post of fitness coach at the then second division club Fortuna Cologne in 1996 . In the following year, Bernd Schuster, a new head coach came, whom Speidel followed in the run-up to the 1998/99 season for their second-class city rivals 1. FC Köln . There he was responsible for the fitness of the team, as in the following years until 2009. In 2000 he moved abroad for the first time when he joined the Portuguese top club Benfica Lisbon . He left this only a year later to meet again with Bernd Schuster at the Spanish second division club Deportivo Xerez . In 2003 both said goodbye to Spain, but unlike Schuster, Speidel decided to return to Germany and found a new employer in the Bundesliga club FC Schalke 04 .

His first Bundesliga stint at FC Schalke 04 was limited to one year, but in the run-up to the 2005/06 season he found another employer in the top German league in Borussia Mönchengladbach . He worked there as a fitness trainer until, in January 2007, Jos Luhukay, a new head coach, was brought in. He was then still under contract, but no longer performed his function. In the summer of 2008, MSV Duisburg initially signed him for his traditional post in the fitness area, before he was given a new position as assistant coach behind Peter Neururer in the run-up to the 2009/10 season . After Neururer's dismissal at the end of October 2009, he was temporarily promoted to head coach. As such, he looked after the team for a competitive game and achieved a 3-0 win against TuS Koblenz in the 2nd Bundesliga . With Milan Šašić the MSV got a new head coach, with whom Speidel had a difficult relationship according to the newspaper RevierSport . Probably against this background, he was given leave of absence from his employer at the beginning of December 2009.

After his experience as an assistant coach, Speidel initially worked again as a fitness coach and as such was responsible for the second team at FC Bayern Munich from July 2011 . From there he moved to the second division Energie Cottbus in January 2013 , which enabled him to return to the post of assistant coach. After the club got into a sporting crisis, head coach Rudi Bommer was fired in November 2013 , before Speidel had to vacate his post the following month. Discrepancies with the new head coach Stephan Schmidt were seen as the main reason for this . In June 2014, the third division Arminia Bielefeld hired him ; with this he was able to return to the 2nd Bundesliga a year later.

In February 2017 Andries brought Jonker Speidel to VfL Wolfsburg as an assistant coach.
