The Uxahryggjavegur is a main road in the highlands in the west of Iceland .

It begins at Borgarfjarðarbraut about 1.5 km south of Tröllafossar as a side road and runs from there in an easterly direction through Lundarreykjadalur. There are a few farms in the valley until it narrows next to the Tunguá River. Englandsfoss waterfall is about 100 meters south of the road. The Lundarreykjadalsvegur crosses the Grímsá and leads back to Borgarfjarðarbraut on its north side. The Skorradalsvegur runs through the valley of the same name with its lake . On the eponymous Uxahryggur pass, the road reaches a height of 410 m. The Uxahryggjavegur then runs along the north bank of the Uxavatn. Then it meets the road from Þingvellir and becomes the main road in the highlands. To the north, the Kaldadalsvegur branches off here , which leads through the Kaldidalur to the Hraunfossar and Surtshellir . The Uxahryggjavegur continues to the south and ends at Þingvallavegur in Þingvellir.

Only at the turn of the year 2020 does this street reach the historic meeting place again. Before that, the north-south part (22.73 km) belonged to the Kaldadalsvegur . The entire road is 82.94 km long. Only the section between Lundarreykjadalsvegur and Kaldadalsvegur has not yet been paved. Even if the Uxahryggjavegur is not marked as a highland road, there is a winter closure (Ófært) and a driving ban when the snow melts. The route was opened again in recent years between April 16 and May 11, mostly around May 1.
