The Borgarfjarðarbraut is a main road in the west of Iceland .
East of Borgarnes , before the long bridge over the fjord, it branches off from the ring road . The Borgarfjarðarbraut initially runs along the east bank of the Borgarfjörður and then bridges the Andakílsá, the outflow from the Skorradalsvatn . Via it and the Hvanneyrarvegur one reaches the place Hvanneyri with its agricultural school. The Hvítárvallavegur branches off to the west and reaches the ring road again over the Hvítá bridge .
To the east the Uxahryggjavegur branches off to Þingvellir . Another bridge crosses the Grímsá between the Lækjarfoss and the Tröllafossar . In front of Kleppjárnsreykir there is a camera from the Icelandic road authority to monitor traffic and weather. Behind the town and the bridge over the Reykjadalsá the road becomes Hálsasveitarvegur , over which you can reach Reykholt and the Hraunfossar .
The Borgarfjarðarbraut itself branches off to the west. The next branch is the 600 m short Deildartunguvegur , which ends at the famous hot springs . The following bridges over the Hvítá , the Þverá and the Norðurá are single-lane. The entire route is paved. After 49 km the Borgarfjarðarbraut meets the ring road again. The distance between the junction and the confluence is only 22 km.
