Václav Šafránek (born May 20, 1994 in Brno ) is a Czech tennis player .

Career

Václav Šafránek mainly plays on tournaments of the lower class ITF Future Tour and ATP Challenger Tour . So far, he has won ten singles and four doubles on the Future Tour. He won his first title on the Challenger Tour in 2017 in Båstad . Together with Tuna Altuna he prevailed in the final against the Indian duo N. Sriram Balaji and N. Vijay Sundar Prashanth in two sets.

After he failed in the first qualifying round at the French Open and Wimbledon Championships in 2017 , he made it into the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time at the US Open . There he met the number seven seeded Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov , against whom he clearly lost 1: 6, 4: 6, 2: 6. On September 11th, he achieved his best position in the world rankings with rank 195 .
