Václav Weinzettl (born January 4, 1862 in Stráž nad Nežárkou , Bohemia , Austria-Hungary ; † April 24, 1930 in Prague , Czechoslovakia ) was an architect and director of a stone processing school in Bohemia.

Life

After graduating from high school , Weinzettl studied architecture at the Czech Technical University in Prague (ČVUT) from 1882 to 1887 .

His main professional activity was at the sculpture and stonemason school of Hořice v Podkrkonoší (Horschitz) near Königgrätz in East Bohemia, where Weinzettl was professor from September 1, 1890 to February 28, 1895 and from March 1, 1897 to April 22, 1929 taught. He was director of this school from June 1, 1904 until his retirement. He was the successor to office of Vilém Dokoupil . Both were able to exert a formative influence on the development of the school at the beginning of the 20th century.

Since 1905 he was also the technical assistant to the Central Society for the Preservation of War Monuments from 1866 in Bohemia ( Ústřední spolek pro udržování vojenských pomníků z roku 1866 v Čechách ), which had been established after the Austro-Prussian War , and from 1908 director of the Industrial museum in the Krkonoše foothills in Hořice v Podkrkonoší. In the same year, as a branch of the museum, he set up a gallery of sculptures with a collection of contemporary sculpture, which has since been used by the technical school, especially in the context of events. A later gallery is located in Hořice behind the Smetana Park on Gothard Mountain.

The cultural heritage he created consists mostly of monuments and some buildings. His works are evidence of Art Nouveau architecture in Bohemia.
