The Väring was a steamship that was launched on December 15, 1948 on the Baltic Sea between Fehmarn and Lolland at the position 54 ° 28 ′ 1 ″  N , 11 ° 33 ′ 3 ″  E, coordinates: 54 ° 28 ′ 1 ″  N , 11 ° 33 '3 "  O . sank after a collision. The wreck is now a popular diving spot.

history

The Väring was launched on July 4, 1898 at the Sir Raylton Dixon and Company shipyard in Middlesbrough and was christened Elna . She drove for the Heimdal D / SA / S shipping company in Copenhagen until 1923 . On February 13, 1923, it was sold to Förnyade Rederi AB Commercial in Höganäs and renamed Väring .

The Väring had a sister ship called Therese .

collision

The Väring was laden with coal on the way from Danzig to Lorient when she was rammed by the Soviet merchant ship Stepan Khalturin (IMO 5340601) in poor visibility . The Väring's crew was completely rescued by the Stepan Khalturin . However, the Väring sank immediately after the collision and is now a target for recreational divers.
