location

The monument stands under trees on the village square of Micheln near the church.

history

In 1913, the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig was 100 years old. The nearby Anhalt was not directly involved in this battle, but in 1813 it was particularly frequented by troop movements from all main parties ( France , Russia , Prussia ), which could be billeted in large numbers. Therefore, the victory was felt as a relief, because from then on the French no longer came to Central Germany . Probably for this reason a relatively large number of monuments were created in the Anhalt countries.

Figure and inscriptions

These memorials are often visually similar. In Micheln, the decision was made in favor of the typical cairn, crowned by an inscription stone, probably a boulder on which 18 October 1813–1913 is written below the iron cross . The complex is bordered by an octagonal fence, which is also frequently observed ( Meilendorf , Wulfen ). Since they do not name any fallen soldiers, the Monument to the Battle of the Nations is part of the border area of the war memorials . The memorial is all the more such a thing because it was later expanded to include a second inscription: We honor the fallen of World War I and II . The inscription is unusual in that there is a separate war memorial for the First World War in the village. The inscription on one of the lower stones was obviously not made until after 1989, as it would have been unthinkable before.
