The Vörde-Selbecker furrow is a natural spatial unit with the order number 336 1 .12 within the Hagener Randhöhen (336 1 .1) and, according to the handbook of the natural classification of Germany, includes the area between the Hesterthardt ridge (336 1 .11) and the Breckerfeld plateau (336 1 .0) at an altitude of 260 to 280 m between Ennepetal - Altenvoerde and Hagen - Selbecke .
Several rivers structure the narrow and partially open high trough, which runs in an east-west direction. The Loher Bach flows to the west from Voerde towards Altenvoerde , east of Voerde the middle course of the Hasper Bach breaks through the high trough, the foothills of which also include the Hasper dam . The valleys of the Selbecker Bach , the Köttinger Bach and the Mäckinger Bach continue the Hochmulde on the Hagen city area.
The high depression is relatively gently eingeböscht and geologically from Rotschiefern existing Ausraum in the Honseler layers of Givetiums . In the more open and spacious part between the West Ennepe and the Hasperbach with Voerde in the center is still a powerful clay layer in shallow depression base present, the other areas of the high depression by erosion is already removed.
