The Breckerfelder plateau is a natural spatial unit with the atomic number 336 1 .0 and includes, according to the Handbook of the Natural Region Divisions of Germany by the Schluchttälen the Ennepe , Heilenbecke and Volme in northern strongly resolved and at the edges from dings and source wells finely structured body surface to 350 up to 440 meters height within the Märkisches Oberland (order number 336 1 ). The highest point in the natural area is the Wengeberg near Breckerfeld . The Ennepetalsperre and the Glörtalsperre are the largest reservoirs within the Breckerfeld plateau.

The plateau is part of the Altenaer Saddle (336 1 .0-5), which, beyond the strict hierarchical structure of the natural areas, is an intermediate unit of six of the nine natural areas (336 1 .0 to 336 1 .5) and thus two thirds of the area of the main unit Märkisches Oberland combined into a geological unit.

The Hanseatic city of Breckerfeld lies in the center of the plateau. In the north it borders the Ennepetal and Hagen urban areas on the Hagener Randhöhen (336 1 .1). At Rüggeberg the plateau with a long riedel , located between the Ennepe and the Heilenbecke, juts far into the Ennepetal gorges (336 1 .10), at Oberbauer between the Ennepe and the Hasper Bach with another long riedel. To the north, northeast and east the plateau at Waldbauer slopes steeply to the 200 m deeper forest valleys of the Vörde-Selbecker Furche (336 1 .12) and the Volme, Nahmer and Lennetal gorges (336 1 .2). In the south, in Halver, the Halver-Lüdenscheider plateaus (336 1 .6) adjoin without a sharp border . In the west are the Wupper-Ennepe plateaus (338.13).

Geologically, the plateau consists of sub-central Devonian clay schist and gray wacke . The Mühlenberg , Höbrecker and Hohenhofer layers of the Eifelium dominate the rock layers . The soils are medium to shallow, mostly poor in bases and stony-loamy. The only island-like cleared areas, mainly around Breckerfeld and Waldbauer, are mostly grassland today .
