Attractions

Located not far from the Heilenbecketalsperre and surrounded by fields, meadows and forests, Rüggeberg is a destination for hikers and weekenders. In the village are half-timbered houses and Bergisch-style ver slate te and white-green-painted town houses.

In the center of the village, where the streets to the surrounding farmers flow into the small market square in an almost star-shaped manner , rises the Protestant church, which was completed in 1827 and renovated in 2002. Immediately in front of this is the Rüggeberg war memorial for the victims of the wars from the 19th and 20th centuries and the Schmittenboom. The latter is a local history monument made of steel, which the Heimatverein Rüggeberg erected on the occasion of its 50th anniversary in 2004. It is supposed to be a reminder of the industrial heyday of Rüggeberg and, in addition to the nameplates of eight surrounding farmers, wears typical steel products from the companies formerly located here (Schmitten) on his arms .

In addition to the Old Cemetery, which was laid out in 1636 with restored and preserved tombstones from the 17th century, there is the Rüggeberg granary from 1717, a granary made of solid oak that is often found in this area and is used both for storing the grain and for protecting families Served looters and in conflagrations.
