The Wengeberg is 442  m above sea level. NN the highest point in the city of Breckerfeld and the Ennepe-Ruhr district in North Rhine-Westphalia . Since Breckerfeld belongs to the Zweckverband Regionalverband Ruhr , the mountain is the highest elevation in the Ruhr area in administrative terms . In addition, the Wengeberg is the highest elevation of the Breckerfeld plateau , the westernmost mountain range of the Altenaer saddle in the Sauerland in Brandenburg .

Geographical location

The double-capped Wengeberg is located south of the city of Breckerfeld on the watershed between the river systems of Volme and Ennepe . The north-eastern summit ( 441  m above sea level ) is forested. The state road  528 leads on the south-western summit to a maximum of 438.2  m above sea level. NHN . Wengeberg , which belongs to Breckerfeld, is located there .

Buildings

The summit of Wengeberg is the location of a transmission tower and a restaurant.

Its exposed location served as the location for station 45 of the Prussian optical telegraph line between Berlin and the Rhine Province as early as the middle of the 19th century .

On August 5, 1894, the town and rural community of Breckerfeld built an iron observation tower on Wengeberg , which was given the name Hohenzollern Tower . The busts of the three emperors of the German Empire were placed in the basement and the tower came into the possession of the Breckerfeld department of the Sauerland Mountain Association (SGV). The tower was demolished in the first half of the 20th century.
