Věra Linhartová

Věra Linhartová (born March 22, 1938 in Brno ) is a Czech writer who lives in exile in France .

Life

Linhartová studied art history and aesthetics and received his doctorate in 1960 with a thesis on baroque architecture in Moravia . She worked in regional monument protection in Brno (1959/60) and Pardubice (1960/62) and from 1962 to 1966 she worked in the Aleš gallery in Hluboká nad Vltavou (Frauenberg) in southern Bohemia . Then she moved to Prague. She published literary works in magazines since 1957. In 1964 her first books were published, two volumes of short stories. Richard Weiner was a literary role model. She was part of the Václav Havel circle of writers.

After the Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968 , she emigrated to Paris . Her two radio plays, written shortly afterwards, were the last works she wrote in Czech . Linhartová studied Japanese and Chinese and lived in both countries for a long time. Her book Sur un fond blanc (1996) compiled Japanese texts on painting from the ninth to the nineteenth centuries. Linhartová published an essay on the Japanese avant-garde in 1986 and the sculptor Isamu Noguchi an anthology on Dada and surrealism in Japan (1987) and in 1999 an edition of Dogen's writings , the founder of Zen Buddhism .
