The Važecká jaskyňa (German Važec stalactite cave ) is a stalactite cave in the Kozie Chrbty Mountains immediately south of the municipality of Važec ( Okres Liptovský Mikuláš ) in northern Slovakia . The cave is 530 m long, of which a 235 m long part is operated as a show cave .

The entrance area has been known to the local population for a long time; a further investigation of the lower part did not take place until 1922. It was made provisional in 1928, but only permanently since 1954. Since 1968 it has been protected as a national natural monument.

The cave was formed in the Mesozoic Gutenstein Limestone of the Middle Triassic under the influence of an underground arm of the Biely Váh river . Stalactites, stalagmites and sinter lakes decorate the underground rooms. The paleontological sites of the bones of the cave bear ( Ursus spelaeus ) are important. Bats are less common.

The relative humidity in the cave is 94 to 96% and the air temperature is 6.5 to 7.1 ° C.
