history

It was later known again in the second half of the 12th century at the latest . According to an old legend, it was discovered by a monk who, while collecting medicinal herbs, dared to look into the mysterious underground rooms.

Historical inscriptions on the walls of the cave are of great value. The oldest dates back to 1452 , when Johann Giskra's troops were staying here. It is in the Hussite Hall and reports on a victory of the troops. From 1780–1870 a blast furnace and foundry worked here.

The cave was made accessible for the first time in 1846 , when the abbot of the monastery, A. Richter, had stairs built and safety measures carried out. Then the facilities fell into disrepair and in 1924 the cave was made accessible again. It has been electrically lit since 1926 .
