Valentin Inzko Sr.
Valentin Inzko Sr. (* January 22, 1923 in Suetschach / Sveče , Carinthia ; † November 6, 2002 in Klagenfurt ) was an Austrian Slavist , educator and politician. He was the father of the diplomat Valentin Inzko .
Life
After studying Slavic and history at the Karl-Franzens University in Graz , he taught at the grammar school in Klagenfurt and from 1951 at the Klagenfurt Teachers' Training College. From 1963 to 1988 he was the specialist inspector for Slovene lessons in Carinthia, and from 1983 to 1988 he was also head of the minority department at the regional school board for Carinthia.
He played a formative role in Slovenian organizations in Carinthia: from 1952 to 1958 he was secretary of the Council of Carinthian Slovenes , from 1960 to 1968 its chairman; from 1958 to 1959 he was secretary of the Krščanska kulturna zveza (Christian Cultural Association); from 1958 to 1992 member of the board and from 1994 chairman of the honorary advisory board of the Hermagoras brotherhood . Together with Ernst Waldstein, he was chairman of the German-Slovenian coordination committee of the diocese of Gurk and editor of the eleven-volume series The Common Carinthia - Skupna Koroška .
