Valentin Schweiger

Valentin Schweiger (born February 14, 1900 in Oberkirch ; † January 1, 1990 in Emmendingen ) was a German educator and politician ( NSDAP , SPD ).

Life

Schweiger attended primary school in Oberkirch until 1914 and then worked as a day laborer. In 1918, shortly before the end of the First World War, he became a soldier. After the end of the war he joined the Freikorps Lichtschlag . In 1920 he became a miner in the Ruhr area and also attended evening school. In 1927 he graduated from high school and then attended a teacher training college in Karlsruhe. Since he did not get a job as a primary school teacher, he worked as a private tutor and assistant teacher. On May 1, 1937 Schweiger joined with the member number 4711733 in the NSDAP and subsequently received in the same year a job as a teacher in alone saw Dobel . In 1940 he received the German Schutzwall Decoration and in 1945 the Iron Cross, 2nd class . In 1950 he became a senior teacher in Ehaben and in 1953 a consultant in the Freiburg High School Office.

In 1948, Schweiger joined the SPD. From 1952 to 1956 he was chairman of the SPD in Freiburg . In 1956 he was nominated by his party for the Baden-Württemberg state election as a second candidate in the Freiburg-Land constituency. Four years later he was a first candidate and was elected as a member of the state parliament, to which he belonged for two legislative periods until 1968. From 1969 to 1975 he was mayor of Horben .

Schweiger was also involved in trade unions. Even before 1933 he was a young teacher representative in the Baden teachers' association. After the Second World War he became a member of the Education and Science Union (GEW). From 1963 to 1968 he was chairman of the GEW regional association in South Baden and then became honorary chairman.

Schweiger was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class in 1969 and the Silver Medal of the City of Freiburg in 1980.

Valentin Schweiger was married and had four children.
