Live and act

Origin and studies

Vlasic, of Croatian - Serbian origin, grew up in Graz. She first studied business administration before deciding to study art history at the Karl Franzens University in Graz. Her focus was on art in the GDR and landscape painting in the Netherlands in the Golden Age . She did her diploma thesis on Walter Ulbricht's conception of art , published in Berlin in 2007, for which she received the recognition award from the Institute for Art History at the University of Graz that same year.

At the Museum Kurhaus Kleve

In 2006 she came to the Museum Kurhaus Kleve as a scientific trainee and web content manager , where she has since specialized in the works of Ewald Mataré , several exhibitions, including 2007 "Ewald Mataré - Aquarelle" and 2010 "Ewald Mataré - Plastik. A Rhenish private collection ”, curated and still looks after the estate ( Ewald Mataré collection ) of the Rhenish sculptor and painter. Valentina Vlasic has been a member of the regional culture working group since July 2010 , a regional, cross-city community initiative to promote cultural life in the Lower Rhine region .

In her function as curator , in 2013 she was in charge of the traveling exhibition “Balnea - Architectural History of the Bath”, previously shown in the Architecture Museum of the Technical University of Berlin , in the Warleberger Hof in Kiel and in the bathing museum in norderney and other museums, and in the same year the exhibition “Astrid Nippoldt: Oakwood ". In March 2014 she showed herself for the exhibition “ Johannes Wald . Gesture and feeling / attempts at forming appropiate finds ”, which was on view until June 9, 2014. Valentina Vlasic has been the editor of the "Museum Reporters", an annual magazine of the "Freundeskreis Museum Kurhaus und Koekkoek-Haus Kleve eV", since 2006 and accompanied contemporary and historical exhibitions at the BC Koekkoek-Haus until June 2014 , such as in autumn / Winter 2011/12 the exhibition “A Romantic View. The Rademakers Collection ”.

At the beginning of 2015 Vlasic planned an exhibition about Govaert Flinck for the Museum Kurhaus , which she curated together with the Dutch art historian Tom van der Molen from the Amsterdam Museum . The exhibition opened on October 4th of the same year under the title “Govert Flinck - Reflecting History”, which is accompanied by works by the Israeli artist Ori Gerscht .

On the 30th anniversary of the death and 95th birthday of the sculptor Joseph Beuys , Valentina Vlasic organized the exhibition “Joseph Beuys. Werklinien ", which was on view from May 1st to September 4th 2016 in the Museum Kurhaus Kleve. The exhibition concentrated on several focal points around the original studio of the sculptor from 1957 to 1964. The exhibition showed the close connection between the sculptor and Kleve in these years, which ranged from the beginning to the later work, including the Büderich memorial for the dead of the world wars , works about Anacharsis Cloots , the tram stop and the 4 books from: Project Westmensch from 1958.

Catalog raisonné

In 2015, Valentina Vlasic, in the course of the exhibition she realized, “Ewald Mataré: The Berlin Years. Das Frühwerk ”in Kurhaus Kleve, revised the catalog raisonné of Mataré's watercolors presented by Ulrike Köcke in 1983, edited by Anna Klapheck and now out of print. About 50 more watercolors have been attributed to Mataré since the first edition.

Saâdane Afif

Your text, which describes the Fountain Archive by Saâdane Afif on one page and on which a picture of the Fountain by Marcel Duchamp is printed, became a work of art by the French object artist in 2013. The page, printed in the series of publications of the Museum Kurhaus Kleve - Ewald Mataré Collection No. 62, thus became Fountain with number 0366, part of the Fountain Archive, which was started in 2008.
