VM Madhavan Nair

VM Madhavan Nair ( Vallillaih Madhathil Madhavan Nair ; born October 8, 1919 in Mangalore ; †) was an Indian diplomat .

Life

Vallillaih Madhathil Madhavan Nair was the son of Padmavathy Amma and Karunakaran Nair. He was married to Krishnakumari and had a daughter and a son. He was a Masters from Oxford University , a Barrister from Cambridge University and was a member of the Inner Temple Bar . He joined the Indian Civil Service in 1942 . From 1944 to 1946 he was employed in Bihar. From 1946 to 1949 he was employed by the Undersecretary of Foreign and Political Affairs of the Indian government and, after independence, by the Foreign Ministry, where he coordinated negotiations with the government of Ngapoi Ngawang Jigmê in Tibet.

From 1950 to 1957 he was employed in Cairo, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in New Delhi and in Colombo .

From 1957 to 1958 he was High Commissioner (Commonwealth) in Malaysia and Commissioner in Singapore . From 1958 to 1960 he was ambassador to Cambodia . From 1960 to 1963 he was ambassador to Oslo . From 1964 to 1967 he was secretary to the foreign minister. From 1967 to 1970 he was ambassador to Warsaw . From 1970 to December 1974 he was ambassador in Rabat . From December 1974 to November 1977 he was ambassador to Madrid .
