Vallisneria spinulosa is a species of the frog-bite family(Hydrocharitaceae).

description

The rhizome is bulbous. The stolons have tiny thorns. The leaves measure 20 to 50, rarely up to 200 centimeters × 4 to 10 millimeters. The middle leaf vein is highlighted, with a number of tiny thorns on it. The leaf margin is serrated, the tip blunt or slightly pointed. The male spathe is conical, has over 300 flowers and measures 1 to 1.5 centimeters × 5 to 8 millimeters. The sepals are convex. The two petals are fused at the base of the stamens. There are two stamens . The stamens are not hairy. The female spathe measures 1 to 2 centimeters. Your peduncle is very long and narrow. The sepals measure about 4 × 2 millimeters and are blunt. The petals are tiny. There are three staminodes . The fruit is triangular-cylindrical, 8 to 20 centimeters × 4 to 7 millimeters in size and has thorns on the edges. The seeds are obovate and two to five-winged.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 20.

The species blooms and produces fruit from August to October.

Occurrence

Vallisneria spinulosa grows in ponds and lakes. The species occurs in Guangxi , Hubei , Hunan and Jiangsu in the People's Republic of China and also in southern Korea.

Systematics

Vallisneria spinulosa was first described by Su Zhu Yan in 1982.
