Vanadium (V) fluoride is a chemical compound from the fluoride group . It is the only known halide that contains vanadium in the + V oxidation state . The compound is a colorless, viscous liquid at room temperature and a white solid below 19.5 ° C.
Extraction and presentation
Vanadium (V) fluoride can be synthesized at 300 ° C from the elements vanadium and fluorine or by disproportionation from vanadium (IV) fluoride .
properties
Vanadium (V) fluoride crystallizes in a chain structure. In this case, VF are 6 - octahedra linked cis-over adjacent corners. In the gas phase there are trigonal-bipyramidal molecules.
The compound is soluble in water with a red-yellow color.
