Vartan Achkarian
Vartan Achkarian CAM (born January 22, 1936 in Harbie ; † July 28, 2012 ) was an Armenian Catholic auxiliary bishop in Beirut .
Life
Vartan Achkarian joined the Congregation of Mechitarists at and received on 22 January 1961, the priestly ordination .
Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Tokat degli Armeni , Curia Bishop in the Patriarchate of Cilicia and auxiliary bishop in Beirut on September 28, 1987 . The Patriarch of Cilicia , John Bedros XVIII. Kasparian , consecrated him bishop on January 17th of the next year ; Co- consecrators were Krikor Ayvazian , Bishop of Kamichlié , and André Bedoglouyan ICPB , Auxiliary Bishop in Cilicia .
He resigned from his position as Curia Bishop in the Patriarchate of Cilicia in 2002. On June 11, 2011, Pope Benedict XVI. his resignation request submitted for reasons of age.
