Vasco Esteves de Baixo is a village in the southeast of the Portuguese district of Seia (Guarda district). It is part of the municipality of Alvoco da Serra .
geography
The place is in the western foothills of the Serra de Estrela . It is accessible to traffic by the national road 231 and is halfway between Outeiro da Vinha and Vasco Esteves de Cima .
history
In 1649 the first mention of a village called Casal de Vasco Esteves , in which a chapel was built. Still 1747 a place Vasco Esteves is only mentioned to 1758 the records of the pastor of two places speak, Vasco Esteves d'Aquém (dt approximately:. Vasco Esteves of strokes) and Vasco Esteves Dalem (dt approximately:. Vasco Esteves from the other side) . Vasco Esteves D´Aquém is today's Vasco Esteves de Baixo. In the school year 1913/14, the primary school, which had been built in 1907, began teaching for the first time.
Buildings
There are two Catholic chapels in the village: the Capela de Nossa Senhora das Preces , which was built in the 17th century by Pedro Gouveia, and the Capela de São José , which was built in 1967.
