The Vasiliy Golovnin is a Russian icebreaking combined ship that can be used to transport supplies and passengers , primarily for use in the Arctic and Antarctic . The ship was named after the Russian admiral and explorer Vasily Michailowitsch Golownin .

history

The ship was on 16 June 1986 under hull number 5004 in Khersonskiy shipyard in Kherson in the Ukraine to put Kiel and completed in December 1988th It belongs to the "10620 series", which is also called the Vitus Bering class after the first ship in this series .

The ship is operated by Dalnevostochnoye Morskoye Parokhodstvo, "Far Eastern Shipping Company" (FESCO), with its home port in Vladivostok .

In the southern summers of 2003/2004 to 2005/2006, the ship was in use on behalf of "Antarctica Services", with the annual charter amounting to 2.5 million US dollars. The Vasiliy Golovnin started its first voyage on December 30, 2003 to supply Casey , Davis , Mawson and Hobart stations .
