Velika Kopanica ( German Groß Kopanitz ) is a municipality with 3,308 inhabitants (2011 census) and is located in northern Croatia in the Brod-Posavina County .

The town itself and the smaller village Mala Kopanica ( German Klein Kopanitz ), which is located around five kilometers west of Velika Kopanica, belong to the municipality . It is located approx. 30 km northeast of Slavonski Brod and is on the railway line that connects eastern and western Croatia, one of the most important trans-European railway connections.

The city is best known for its good traffic situation, as the important main road to Osijek passes Velika Kopanica.

The name Ivan Filipović is a well-known name in the city as he is the bearer of the local school and some streets.
