Veliko Selo ( Serbian-Cyrillic : Велико Село) is a village in the Opština Loznica (Loznica municipality) in western Serbia .
Surname
The name of the village is derived from the Serbian words Veliko (large) and Selo (village).
Since there are several places with the name Veliko Selo in former Yugoslavia , the village is also known as Lozničko Veliko Selo .
geography
Veliko Selo is located in the Opština Loznica , in the Okrug Mačva in north-western central Serbia , in the historical Jadar region , which is part of the Serbian- Bosnian border region Podrinje , named after the Drina river .
The village is located in the Karlovac and Ujdurovac valleys on slight elevations and hills at the foot of the Iverak Mountains . The village forest and the village pastures are also located in the Iverak . Veliko Selo is not far from the Jadar River .
Veliko Selo consists of two parts of the village, Gornja Mala and Donja Mala . The climate is continental .
The village is located northeast of the municipal capital Loznica. The neighboring villages of Veliko Selo are Brnjac , Jarebice , Draginac and Brezjak .
The farmers work their fields in Lozničko Polje and in the Jadar Valley.

history
The first villagers of Veliko Selo had to clear a large forest on the site of today's village. During the Second World War , 270 villagers, including 23 children under 10 years of age, were shot dead by the German Wehrmacht in an atonement from October 13 to 21, 1941 .

The population of the village professes the Serbian Orthodox Church . Veliko Selo does not have its own church building .
The village belongs to the parish Jarebice in the deanery Jadar of the eparchy Šabac , the Serbian Orthodox Church.
Infrastructure
Veliko Selo has a village primary school, a house of the local community (mesna zajednica), a village hospital and a memorial to the civilian victims of the Second World War and the fallen Tito - Partisans .
