Vera Scholz from Reitzenstein

Vera Scholz von Reitzenstein (born March 27, 1924 in Rosenberg , Upper Silesia ; † August 21, 2018 in Heidelberg , resident in Basel ) was a Swiss sculptor and sculptor.

life and work

Vera Scholz von Reitzenstein was born in Upper Silesia. In 1933 she emigrated to Switzerland and studied at the general trade school in Basel .

In Basel, she took part in exhibitions at the Galerie d'Art Moderne and the Kunsthalle Basel . Commissions in public space followed, also through the Kunstkredit-Basel Stadt . In 1962 she created the fountain sculpture in Kannenfeldpark in Basel.

Vera Scholz von Reitzenstein lived in Heidelberg from 1965 and rented a small studio in Handschuhsheim . As a member of the Heidelberg artist group, she took part in many exhibitions. In 2004 she exhibited her sculptures with the Heidelberg etcher Gotthard Glitsch in the Kurpfälzisches Museum Heidelberg . The city acquired several of their works.

When in old age her strength was no longer sufficient to work marble, Vera Scholz von Reitzenstein began to design geometric shapes on paper in order to have models made for wall objects in a carpenter's workshop. Scholz von Reitzenstein put these different modules together in new ways and painted them in different colors. The result was an exhibition in the Heidelberg city library to award the Willibald Kramm Prize 2012.
