The Association of Breslauer Ballspiel-Vereine (VBBV) was a local football association in the Silesian city of Wroclaw .

founding

Despite its size, Wroclaw had for years proved to be sterile ground for football. It was not until Shrove Monday, February 23, 1903 , that an association was founded. The four clubs SV Blitz 1897 Breslau , FC 1898 Breslau , SC Schlesien 1901 Breslau and SC Prussia 1902 Breslau founded the Association of Wroclaw Ball Game Clubs on this day. The big game departments of the gymnastics clubs Alter TV, TV Vorwärts and Akademischer TV did not join the association due to the hostility from the gymnastics corner against the soccer clubs and imposed game bans.

development

Even after the association was founded, there were complaints about the “frighteningly slow development” of football in Wroclaw . "Apart from the compulsory association games, there is a notorious fear of any competition, constantly fearing an interruption of the calm on the laurels" as a contemporary reporter wrote. The question of space was also an unsolved problem. After their founding, the Wroclaw clubs were assigned urban spaces, which “all of them do not meet the slightest requirements of a football field in technical terms, but are maintained by their owners with an admirable sedentariness. Groundwater, sand reaching up to the ankles, etc. are less important than the eventual payment of an annual rent with the equivalent of having a usable space. "

From the end of March to the end of May 1903 , the first championship was held in two classes. The 1st class included Blitz, FC 1898 and Schlesien, the youngest club Prussia played with the reserve teams of the three other clubs in the 2nd class. In a superior manner, FC 1898 Breslau became champions in both divisions.

At the end of the second 1903/04 season, a playoff for the championship between Silesia and FC 1898 had to be played due to a tie. In the second half of the game, the match was canceled when the score was 2-1 for Silesia, after the captain of Silesia was "incapacitated" . Silesia was then declared the Wroclaw Master. After a protest, the playoff was to be repeated on May 29th, but FC 1898 did not play. Rather, he resigned from the Association of Breslau Ball Game Clubs on June 7, 1904 . This season the game was played in three classes for the first time.

With the accession of SC Germania 1904 Breslau in June 1904, the VBBV continued to belong to four clubs. Germania was accepted directly into 1st class, as was SC Preußen, although in the previous season they only took the last place in 2nd class. Before the beginning of the 1904/05 season, so-called diploma games were played in a single round to give the clubs the opportunity to test their players and then to report the teams for the first teams.

In the 1905/06 season there were already four divisions. The FC 1898 Breslau had joined the association again and has been included SC 1904 Wroclaw . The 1st class consisted of six clubs. Furthermore, the SC Viktoria joined the association in 1904 Breslau, but was assigned to the 2nd class.

On the last day of the association of the Breslauer Ballspiel-Vereine on August 26th, 1906, this disbanded, but the district of Breslau in the Southeast German Football Association was re-established.

Final round of the German championship

It was not until the 1904/05 season that the Breslau champions took part in the final round of the German championship for the first time. In the first preliminary round, the SC Schlesien 1901 Breslau in Dresden defeated SC Alemannia Cottbus clearly 5: 1, but in the second preliminary round they waived the game against the Magdeburg FC Viktoria 1896 .

In 1905/06 the SC Schlesien 1901 Breslau again competed in a neutral place in Dresden , this time against BFC Hertha 1892 . Silesia was not up to the Berliners and was clearly defeated 1: 7.

Also in 1906/07 the Wroclaw and Southeast German champions SC Schlesien 1901 faced the Berlin title holder in the quarter-finals, but held up considerably in the narrow 1: 2 defeat against BTuFC Viktoria 89 in Berlin .
