The Verbandsgemeinde Waldsee was an administrative unit in the legal form of a regional body in the Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . The two independent local communities Otterstadt and Waldsee belonged to the Verbandsgemeinde . The administrative seat was in Waldsee .
The community association was dissolved on July 1, 2014 from the previously united free communities Altrip and Neuhofen and the local churches Otterstadt and Waldsee created a new community association Waldsee that the name of 1 January 2016 municipality Rheinauen received.

history
The Verbandsgemeinde Waldsee became part of the Rhineland-Palatinate functional and territorial reform started in the 1960s on the basis of the "Thirteenth State Law on Administrative Simplification in the State of Rhineland-Palatinate" of March 1, 1972, came into force on April 22, 1972, newly formed. Until the district reform in 1969, the Verbandsgemeinde belonged to the Speyer district and since its dissolution in the same year to the Ludwigshafen district (since 2003 Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis ).
With the aim of optimizing the municipal territorial structures, the state government passed the First State Law on Local and Administrative Reform in 2010 . With regard to the association communities, it was determined that they should include at least 12,000 inhabitants (main residence on June 30, 2009). On the reporting date (June 30, 2009) the community of Waldsee had 8,610 inhabitants. In a report from June 2011 commissioned by the Ministry of the Interior and for Sport , the recommendation was made to merge the previously unaffiliated communities of Altrip and Neuhofen with the community of Waldsee. The community of Altrip and the community of Waldsee had agreed within the "voluntary phase" on December 19, 2011 on the formation of a new community. The municipality of Neuhofen, on the other hand, planned a voluntary merger with the independent municipality of Limburgerhof , but this failed due to a referendum in Limburgerhof.
The law adopted on 22 November 2013 ", state law on the voluntary formation of the new municipality Waldsee" provided that the previous municipality Waldsee dissolved on July 1, 2014 and from the previously belonging local communities Otterstadt and Waldsee lake and the previous combined free communities Altrip and Neuhofen an new community was formed. This initially bears the name "Waldsee", the final name should be determined within a year. The municipality administration is in Waldsee.

The blazon of the coat of arms reads: “In a shield border diagonally divided by silver and blue, divided by green and silver by a wavy line obliquely to the left, at the top two crossed golden arable trees with silver iron, at the top angled by a floating silver Greek cross, at the bottom a blue mark in the form of a Ring, to which three V-like angles are attached at equal intervals so that their inner tips cover the outer edge of the ring. "
It was approved by the Neustadt district government in 1985 and contains the elements of the coats of arms of the two local communities. The wavy line symbolizes the Rhine .
