Association of memorials in the former Natzweiler concentration camp complex

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Working group Cochem-ZellVerbund the memorials in the former Natzweiler eV ( VGKN ) based in Stuttgart is an association organized in the form of an association for 15 memorials and memorial initiatives of the former Natzweiler concentration camp complex in Germany.

history

35 of “more than” 50 satellite camps of the former Natzweiler concentration camp complex were located in what is now Baden-Württemberg . Memorial sites have been created at 12 of the 35 "former storage or production sites" in the southwest. These voluntary remembrance projects joined forces in November 2016. A memorial project outside of Baden-Württemberg's VGKN became a member for the first time in 2017 with the support association for the establishment of a memorial and educational site “ Katzbach ” in Frankfurt am Main .

aims

The VGKN members want to run scientific, cultural and educational community projects.

The association strives for “close cooperation” with the European Center for Deported Resistance Fighters (CERD) in France in order to establish a “network of remembrance”.

The Baden-Württemberg members of the VGKN are members of the state working group of memorials and memorial initiatives in Baden-Württemberg (LAGG) and are therefore "closely" connected to the other remembrance projects in the southwest.

advancement

The VGKN is funded by the State Center for Political Education .

The Federal Republic of Germany funds the VGKN pilot project for cross-border memorial work in the areas of research, remembrance work and education.

European Heritage Label (EKS)

France ( Ministry of Culture , Ministry of Defense , European Center for Deported Resistance Fighters ) took the lead in applying for the European Heritage Seal (EKS) 1 for the former Natzweiler concentration camp and the around 50 associated satellite camps . The application was supported by Baden-Württemberg through the Ministry of Economic Affairs , the State Center for Political Education , the State Office for Monument Preservation and the VKGN. In 2018, the cultural seal was awarded to the memorials of the former Natzweiler-Struthof concentration camp complex, as they "embody the ideals and values, the history and integration of Europe." The applicants have committed to implement the following work program:

  • The establishment of a common internet portal
  • The expansion of cross-border placement projects, especially for school classes
  • The guarantee of a multilingual offer at the locations

Every four years, the EKS sites are checked to see whether they comply with the criteria and implement the work program.

Projects of the CERD and the VGKN

  • Traveling exhibition "Photographier la mémoire - Photographing the memory" initiated by the Strasbourg École ORT (2017): Photographs of German and French students from the former Natzweiler concentration camp complex
  • Art project "La Fraternité / Brotherhood" by the French art association Quinz'art and the German artist group Poster Wall Art (2018/19): 16 works of art each by a Franco- German artist tandem on the history of the former Natzweiler concentration camp complex
