Verdena is an Italian rock band founded in 1995 .

history

When the band was founded, the two brothers Alberto and Luca Ferrari were still minors. With the entry of bassist Roberta Sammarelli, the first demo recordings were made, which were sold - albeit only moderately - from July 1997. The band changed their original name from Verbena to Verdena after it was discovered that there was an American band of the same name.

In March 1999 the trio recorded their first official album in Florence , which bears the band's name and was released on September 30, 1999 in Italy, after the EP Valvonauta had already been released on June 21 of the same year . In the meantime, the band played at several festivals and achieved greater notoriety in Italy for the first time.

In October 2001, after the release of the second album Solo un grande sasso, Verdena began a new tour, which lasted until 2002 and took the band across Italy and to a festival in the Netherlands . In the meantime, Fidel Fogaroli started playing keyboard; However, he was only considered an official member of the band since January 2004.

In the summer of 2003 Verdena went back to the studio, this time to record her third album Il Suicidio dei Samurai , which was released the following year in Italy. Another tour of Italy followed; As the opening act for Dredg , the band also came to Switzerland and Germany at the end of 2005 , where - with the official release date March 29 - Il Suicidio dei Samurai has not only been available as an import since 2005.

In 2006 Verdena received the amount of 8,000 € through a European support program, which should flow into another European tour, which the band u. a. again to Germany and Switzerland, but also to France , where Il Suicidio dei Samurai has now also been published.

In 2007 Verdena worked in her own studio ( Henhouse Studio , which means something like 'chicken coop', which was probably there once) on the fourth album, some of which have already been presented live. Verdena completely dispenses with digital technology in her studio in order to maintain the authenticity of the songs.

In March 2007 Verdena released her album Requiem in Italy, in Germany it was released on April 17th. Since Fidel Fogaroli is no longer listed among the members in the booklet, it can be assumed that the band is now again formed as a group of three. The album was followed a few months later by the EP Canos .

Even if the band is more of an insider tip outside of Italy , Verdena has already celebrated numerous successes in their homeland, for example they played there as the opening act for U2 .

style

Verdena's sound is inspired by bands like Radiohead , Queens of the Stone Age or Kyuss . On the other hand, singer Alberto Ferrari is also a friend of the music of Pink Floyd or Cream , whose song Sunshine of Your Love Verdena published a cover version.
